“Closure” - Clubroot

I listened to Burial’s Untrue to get into dubstep, but I wasn’t blown away by it. It wasn’t an unpleasant listen, but it wasn’t hitting the right spots for me. I think I may have been slightly overexpectant given all the hype I’d read about it.

I heard some Clubroot stuff here on Tumblr and was impressed, so I got II: MMX. Really, really digging the sound. It’s a very ambient sound at times, and not at all like the dirty-bass dubstep you hear thrown around so much by people like Skrillex. In fact, you can hear lots of musical influences here; my trance-trained ears picked up some deeply buried riffs, there’s some vaguely tribal overtones in “Dust Storm” and loads of ambient synth floating around. Seriously, check this out.
